Spraire Lasses score Abbeyfield Society sponsorship
A brand new football team aimed at encouraging girls into sport has won the backing of a prestigious local charity.
The Under 11s Spraire Lasses is a fledgling team put together by Red Hall School’s Nathan Beadle.
The new team has won some sponsorship from the Abbeyfield Society, which is based in the Danby Lodge estate off Ashcroft Road.
The charity, which provides independent living for people in later life, has sponsored new training tops for the girls team.
They were unveiled by resident Pat O’Byrne, who said the sponsorship was an exciting partnership.
Kath MacColl, General Manager of Abbeyfield, said “Residents and staff were delighted to give the team a helping hand and get more girls interested in sport of all kinds. We were really impressed with Nathan’s motivation and by the girls’ enthusiasm and it’s great to play a part in our local community.”
Nathan said: “I am absolutely delighted with the support given to us by Abbeyfield and am very grateful of the sponsorship, which has seen us receive new training tops. We are growing the girls football section of our club and are always on the look out for new players from the year groups 1-6 and with the support of Abbeyfield hope to see Spraire Lasses put girls football on the map in Darlington”
